Suzuki has revealed its first mass-production battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, in Europe. The e Vitara will have two LFP battery options and an all-wheel drive.
Production will begin at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India in the Spring of 2025, with sales expected to start in Europe, Japan, India, and Nepal by the Summer of 2025.
The e Vitara is based on the “eVX” concept, which was showcased at the Auto Expo in India in January 2023 and will make its debut at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo in India in January 2025.
Design-wise, the e Vitara features a rugged, muscular exterior with large-diameter tires and a long wheelbase, reflecting Suzuki’s "High-Tech & Adventure" theme. Inside, it offers an integrated display with advanced features and durable materials for a tough look.
The e Vitara is equipped with Suzuki's electric 4WD system, “AllGRIP-e,” which uses independent eAxles at both the front and rear. It also includes a Trail mode to assist in rough terrain by braking spinning tires and shifting torque to the opposite wheel.
Built on the new 'Heartect-e' platform, developed with Toyota and Daihatsu, the e Vitara will offer two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh, with the larger battery providing up to 400 km of range.
The entry-level model comes with a 49 kWh battery and a front-mounted 142 bhp electric motor, offering around 320 km of range. The mid-range variant features the 61 kWh battery and a 172 bhp front motor, while the top-spec version combines the same battery with dual e-motors—producing 181 bhp, 300 Nm of torque, and all-wheel drive.
The e Vitara will be available with 18-inch and 19-inch wheels. It measures 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. It is similar in size to the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara but offers a longer wheelbase. Ground clearance is 180 mm, and the wheel tracks are 1,540 mm in the front and 1,545 mm in the rear.
In our market, the e Vitara will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta electric SUV.
